Reverse switch and the cam actuator (1) Reverse switch (2) Reverse switch actuator lobeThis diagnostic code is associated with the reverse switch. The reverse switch provides two inputs to the ECM. The inputs are Normally Open and Normally Closed. During normal operation, one of the inputs is open and the other input is grounded. A problem is detected when both inputs are in the same state at the same time. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
There is an open wire between the common circuit for the switch and the ECM.
There is an open or grounded wire between the Normally Open contact of the switch and the ECM.
There is an open or grounded wire between the Normally Closed contact of the switch and the ECM.
The switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely. Test Step 1. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR PROPER OPERATION
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the ECM.
At machine harness connectors for the ECM, measure the resistance from J1-13 (wire 202-BK) to the contact J1-33 (F782-OR) and to contact J1-34(F786-GY).
Measure the resistance while the direction lever is in the NEUTRAL (N) position. Also, measure the resistance while the direction lever is in the REVERSE (R) position .Expected Result:For the measurement from contact J1-13 to J1-33:
When the direction lever is in the N position, the resistance measurement is above 5000 ohms.
When the direction lever is in the R position, the resistance measurement is below 5 ohms. For the measurement from contact J1-13 to J1-34:
When the direction lever is in the N position, the resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms.
When the direction lever is in the R position, the resistance measurement is above 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are correct. The switch operation is OK. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance measurements are not correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SWITCH CIRCUIT AT THE SWITCH
At the switch, disconnect the three wires from the switch.
At the switch, measure the resistance between the common contact and the Normally Closed contact. Measure the resistance between the common contact and the Normally Open contact.
Measure the resistance while the switch is activated. Also, measure the resistance while the switch is not activated.Expected Result:For the measurement from the Common contact to the Normally Open contact:
When the switch is NOT activated, the resistance measurement is above 5000 ohms.
When the switch IS activated, the resistance measurement is below 5 ohms. For the measurement from the Common contact to the Normally Closed contact:
When the switch is NOT activated, the resistance measurement should less than 5 ohms.
When the switch IS activated, the resistance measurement is above 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance values that are measured are correct.Repair: The machine harness has failed. The return circuit wire 202-BK is most likely causing the problem if both resistance measurements are not correct. If only one of the resistance measurements is not correct, the involved input circuit is
