Information:
Never look into a laser beam or point the beam into the eyes of other people. Set the laser at a height that prevents the beam from flashing directly into people's eyes.
Before you set up the equipment consider the size, shape, and elevation of the area. This will help to determine the number of laser setups that are needed. Refer to the laser transmitter's operation manual for information on the maximum area that is covered by the transmitter.Caterpillar recommends the use of a laser transmitter with the following features:
Automatic Self-Leveling Mode
600 rpm min rotational Speed
Automatic Out of Level Shutoff For 360° operation, the elevation of the laser should be 0.50 m (1.64 ft) above the highest point on the machine in order to prevent the laser beam from being blocked. Mount the laser receiver so that the laser receiver can detect the beam.Align the laser's grade axis of the laser. If necessary, dial in the slope(s) in order to match the job requirements.Note: Read the operator manual and follow the operator manual that is supplied with the laser transmitter.Placement of the Laser Transmitter and Rules for Location
Before you begin work, decide on the location to place the laser transmitter for optimum coverage of the job site. Proceed through the following steps in order to help you locate the laser transmitter.
Place the laser transmitter on the job site so the laser transmitter will be out of the way of traffic and the laser transmitter will not be obstructed by other equipment.
Make the most efficient use of the laser transmitter's operating radius. Typical laser transmitters for machine control will have a 460 m (1500 ft)operating range. In order to improve the accuracy of the AccuGrade - Laser System, minimize the distance from the laser transmitter to the machine by placing the laser in the center of the work area or offset to one side of the work area. The precision of the system will be better when you operate closer to the transmitter. There will be less impact on the system from environmental factors that are associated with the following:
Wind
Dust
Temperature
Curvature of the earthNote: Operating closer than 15 m (50 ft) to the transmitter may cause the system to become unstable.
Set the height of the tripod. Set the height of the laser transmitter. Ensure that the laser beam will strike the laser receiver when the laser receiver is positioned correctly on the machine. Set the laser transmitter high enough so that the cab of the machine will not stop the laser beam from being detected by the laser receiver.
Make sure that the location of the tripod and the laser transmitter is stable. Ground vibration and extremely windy conditions can affect the operation of the laser transmitter.
If you are working in very dusty conditions, place the laser transmitter up wind. Dirt and dust will be blown away from the laser transmitter. This reduces the interference between the laser transmitter and the laser receiver.Rules for the Tripod
Most laser transmitters have a 5/8-11 tripod mount
