Schematic of the action alarmThis diagnostic code is recorded when the Main Display Module reads the current of the circuit for the action alarm and the current is above normal. The action alarm does not SOUND as a result of this diagnostic code. The schematic that is shown above represents a typical installation of the component. Verify the connector contact and the wire numbers by utilizing the Electrical System Schematic for the machine that is being serviced. System Response:When this diagnostic code is active, the following occurs:
The alarm horn is disabled.
Pop up indication on display.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ALARM.
Disconnect the machine harness from the alarm.Expected Result:The CID 0271 FMI 06 changes to a CID 0271 FMI 05 diagnostic code when the alarm is disconnected. Results:
OK - The active CID 0271 FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a CID 0271 FMI 05 when the alarm is disconnected. The action alarm circuit is correct.Repair: The alarm has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE ALARM" in order to verify the alarm failure. Replace the alarm.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 0271 FMI 06 diagnostic code remains active. The alarm is not causing the problem. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS.
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
The alarm remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Disconnect the machine harness from the main display module.
At the machine harness connector for the main display module, measure the resistance between contact 8 (410-WH) and frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The harness resistance is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE MODULE.
Remove contact 8 from the machine harness connector for the main display module by utilizing the correct service tools.
Reconnect the machine harness connector to the module.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Place the same diagnostic code on hold and check the service code indicator.Expected Result:The CID 0271 FMI 05 is present. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code is NO longer active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial diagnostic code could have been caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at a harness connector that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operationSTOP
NOT OK - The CID 0271 FMI 06 remains present. The main display module may have failed.Repair: If the cause of the problem is not found, contact the Technical Communicator for your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. It is unlikely that the module has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this diagnostic code procedure again. If the problem has not been found, then replace the main display module. See Troubleshooting, "Main Display Module - Replace".STOP
