PROBLEM
The new connecting rods have mismatched caps and various other defects that may cause an engine failure.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all 0R-3037 and 0R-3285 Cylinder Packs, and 0R-0921 Connecting Rods in dealer parts stock with label date codes on the box prior to March 18, 2008. The inspected cylinder packs that have been assembled with new connecting rods need to removed from dealer parts stock. The 0R-0921 Connecting Rod packages that contain new parts instead of 0R-0921 parts need to be removed from dealer parts stock.
The label date code for the cylinder packs and connecting rods is located on the part number tag on the outside of the packing box. The date code appears as a DDMMYY code (ie. D18M03Y08 = March 18, 2008).
0R-3037 and 0R-3285 Cylinder Packs that are assembled with remanufactured 0R-0921 Connecting Rods may be used. The 0R-0921 remanufactured connecting rods that can be left in dealer parts stock will have the part number 0R-0921 etched into the rod cap. See photo.

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Submit one claim for all parts removed from dealer parts stock.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Any parts removed from parts stock should be returned on your next core shipment to local core inspection facility. PLEASE IGNORE THE NORMAL 15 DAY HOLDING PERIOD REQUIREMENT. Package these parts separately from normal cores on shipment and label each case with PI70254. All parts returned must have a Core Credit Request (CCR) entered into CMIS2 to allow for core credit refund to be processed. Remember to document your Cat warranty claim number on the CCR to ensure 100% core credit is processed for the returned parts.
