Engine News SEBD9923, 13 January 2014, "New V Band Clamps and Mounting Hardware Are Used on Certain 3512C Engines". The article has been revised to add new steps.Description of Change: The new mounting hardware and band clamps make a more robust joint.Adaptable To: The new parts are adaptable back to first production of the engines listed above. The new parts are listed in Table 1. Refer to the procedure below for installing the new V band clamps and mounting hardware.The new v band clamps and hardware are effective with the following serial numbers:

Remove the four existing V band clamps.
Remove the two existing bellows.
Remove five bolts (7) and five washers (4) .
Remove four bolts (3), eight washers (4) and four nuts (5). Retain nuts (5) for reuse.
Remove both brackets (6). Clean all paint from all metal to metal mating surfaces and under the washers. Retain for reuse. Refer to Illustrations 1 and 2.
Install the new 302-6504 Bellows .
Install four new 434-6544 V Band Clamps (1) .

Install three new bolts (8) and three new washers (9) .
Install two new bolts (10), four new washers (9) and two previously removed nuts (5) .

Install two new bolts (8) and two new washers (9) .
Install two new bolts (10), four new washers (9) and two previously removed nuts (5). Refer to Illustrations 3 and 4.

Ensure that the tube assembly is attached to the aftercooler using four 0S-1594 Bolts (7) and four 5M-2894 Hard Washers (11) .
If the washers are not installed, remove one bolt at a time and install one washer per bolt.
Tighten bolts
