Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1500, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies, on all tube assemblies and on all wire harnesses for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank. The capacity of the hydraulic tank is 420 L (111 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Hoist, Torque Converter and Brake Tank Oil - Change" for the correct procedure.

Position a suitable container under housing (3) in order to contain hydraulic oil for storage or disposal.
Remove drain plug (5) from housing (3) in order to drain the hydraulic oil from housing (3). Note: Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Install plug (5) in housing (3) in order to prevent contamination.
In order to ease removal, loosen housing (3) prior to removing base (2) from the frame assembly.
Disconnect tube assembly (4) from base (2).
Disconnect hose assembly (9) from base (2).
Loosen two nuts (1) (not shown) in order to disconnect wire harness (8) from bypass switch (6).
Remove three bolts (7), the washers and clip (10) (not shown) in order to remove base (2) from the frame assembly.
