Illustration 1 g02181003This diagnostic code is recorded when the CMPD module does not receive enough parameters from the Transmission ECM through the Cat Data Link.The Cat Data Link is an input and an output of all electronic control modules. The data link is designed to carry communications between all electronic control modules. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of internal control circuits and the connecting wire harness
The software that is installed on the Transmission ECM is incorrect.
The software that is installed on the CMPD module is incorrect.
A new ECM or control module has been installed that is not the correct part number.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE HARDWARE AND THE SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS
Verify that the following information is correct:
The part number of the installed software of the Transmission ECM
The part number of the installed software of the CMPD Module
The part number of the Transmission ECM
The part number of the CMPD Module Note: Contact the Technical Communicator in your dealership for the correct part numbers of the hardware and the correct part numbers for the configuration software.Expected Result:All hardware and software part numbers are correct.Results:
OK - All hardware and software part numbers are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All hardware and software part numbers are NOT correct.Repair: Replace the hardware or software that is incorrect with the correct version. For flashing software, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program". For replacing ECM modules, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace"STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Check the status of the CID 0296 FMI 14 diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID 0296 FMI 14 diagnostic code is not active.Results:
OK - The CID 0296 FMI 14 diagnostic code is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial diagnostic code may have been caused by a start-up problem with one of the ECM controls. Resume normal operationSTOP
NOT OK - The CID 0296 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected.Repair: Verify that all possible causes of the diagnostic code have been investigated. Ensure that you have the latest version of software for your specific machine.Flash the CMPD Module and the Transmission ECM with the latest version of software if no cause is found for the following conditions:
The diagnostic code remains active
The diagnostic code is repeatedly activatedRefer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program" section of this manual for the correct procedure.If the problem is still present after flashing the latest software, contact the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN). Indicate the steps that have been taken to try to find the cause of this problem. The DSN personnel will provide instruction on the actions that must be taken in order to resolve this problem.STOP
