Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the radiator guards, the radiator, and the oil coolers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator Gaurds, Radiator and Oil Coolers - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

Disconnect hose assembly (1) from water pump (2). Loosen two hose clamps (3) that secure hose (4) to elbow (5). Disconnect hose (4) from elbow (5) .

Loosen hose clamp (6) that secures hose (7) to the valve. Disconnect hose (7) from the valve.

Loosen hose clamp (8) that secures hose (9) to the valve. Disconnect hose (9) from the valve. Remove two bolts (10), the washers, and the retainers that secure tube (11) to elbow (5) .

Remove four bolts (12) and the washers that secure elbow (5) to water pump (2). Remove elbow (5) and the O-ring seal from water pump (2) .

Remove four bolts (13) that secure water pump (2) to outlet tube (14) .

Attach a suitable lifting sling around water pump (2), as shown. Attach a suitable hoist to the lifting sling. Remove four bolts (15) that secure water pump (2) to the engine. Remove water pump (2) and the O-ring seals from the engine. The weight of the water pump is 39 kg (86 lb).
