 5. The counterweight will swing away from the machine and lower to the ground as the machine is raised. 6. Remove the retaining pins. Disconnect the cables from the machine. 7. Lower the side of the carbody by slowly raising the boom. The machine may be used to move the counterweight. Attach a sling to the hook on the back of the bucket. To install the counterweight, position it 2.1 m (7 ft.) from the side of the machine. Reverse the removal procedure.
After the counterweight is installed and before the machine is operated, relax the cable tension.
Loading on a Lowboy
Check the travel route for adequate overpass clearance.Block the trailer or flatcar wheels before loading the machine. Remove ice, snow or slippery material from the loading dock and trailer or flatcar before loading.Do not transport track-type machines on steel bed trailers.
1. Position the machine with the front facing the side of the trailer.2. Position the boom over the trailer. Apply down pressure to raise the front of the track. 3. Move the machine forward while moving the stick in. 4. Raise the boom and swing the upper structure 180°. Apply down pressure to raise the rear of the machine.5. Move the stick out while traveling onto the trailer. 6. Position the machine parallel to the bed.Lifting the Machine
Make sure the lifting cables and other lifting devices are strong enough to support the machine.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the proper size and type of cables and lifting devices.Use guide or tag lines to prevent the machine from swinging or turning.
1. Position the cab over the sprockets. Engage the swing lock pin. 2. Attach cables to the two lifting eyes in the frame behind the boom. 3. Remove the panel beside the left lifting eye for hook clearance. 4. Run a third cable through the slot in the conterweight. 5. Attach this cable to the towing eye on the carbody frame.6. Position the boom, stick and bucket as close to the machine as possible. After Loading
1. Lower all equipment. 2. Engage the swing lock pin (forward position).
Inspect to be sure the lock pin is engaged.
3. Move the hydraulic and anti-travel lock lever to the lower position. Stop the engine. 4. Turn the disconnect switch off and remove the key. 5. Cover the engine exhaust opening. 6. Close and lock the cab door.7. Install and secure all vandalism guards and covers.8. Block the machine and secure it with tie downs.9. Fasten all loose or removed parts securely to the lowboy or flatcar bed.10. The ether starting aid bottle must be removed before shipping the machine.
Protect the engine cooling system with anti-freeze to the lowest expected outside temperature on the travel route or drain the cooling system completely.
Front Shovel
To Empty the Master Cylinder
Personal injury or machine damage can result from high hydraulic pressure created by the master cylinder, if the boom is raised or lowered with bucket or master cylinder lines blocked. Before bucket or master cylinder lines are blocked, disconnect the master cylinder lines
