Information:
Whitey B-43 Series Ball Valves (CMI No. 2-6416 Through 2-6419)
PR-750B Elevation Selector, Park Brake And Overdrive Valves Leakage around the stems of these valves has occured when operating new machines in cold weather, the low temperatures causing the stem packing to shrink. Leaking has also occured after the valves have been in service some time, resulting from normal wear of the stem packing. The leakage in either case can usually be stopped by using a hex adaptor (CMI 1-9455 or Whitey MS-WK-43) to adjust the stem packing.1. Use a 3/32-inch (2.4-mm) hex key (Allen Wrench) to loosen the setscrew in the valve handle and remove the handle. 2. Slide the hex adaptor over the valve stem and position the two prongs on the adaptor in the holes in the valve packing retainer.3. Tighten the retainer with a wrench in 1/8 turn increments until the valve has resealed. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. OVERTIGHTENING MAY SHORTEN THE VALVE LIFE. Usually the first 1/8 turn is sufficient to reseal the valve. Correct torque for 2000 to 2500 psi (13 790 to 17 238 kPa) is 40 in.-lb. (4.5 Nm).4. Remove the adaptor and install the handle. If the stem leakage cannot be stopped by adjusting the packing, the packing should be replaced by using the hex adaptor to back the packing retainer out of the valve and then removing the stem assembly. A packing kit (CMI 2-6416 or Whitey T-9C-43) is available.
