The temperature sensor for the steering oil informs the ECM of the temperature of the steering system oil. The ECM uses the information about the steering oil temperature to provide early warnings of potential steering hydraulic failures.Interaxle Lock Accumulator Pressure Sensor
Illustration 3 g02908225
The inter axle lock accumulator pressure sensor, is a PWM sensor. The sensor provides a PWM signal to the Chassis ECM. The Chassis ECM uses the PWM signal to determine the pressure at the inter axle lock accumulator. If the pressure is below the minimum defined limit, the ATC feature energizes an ON/OFF solenoid. The solenoid known as the Inter Axle Lock Accumulator Charge Solenoid, controls the pressure in the accumulator. When the pressure reaches the desired level, the ATC feature de-energizes the Inter Axle Lock Accumulator Charge solenoid. This cycle repeats as necessary to ensure that sufficient pressure is available. With the PWM signal, the sensor also provides the diagnostic status of the sensor. When the sensor is shorted to battery, open circuit, shorted to ground, or faulted internally, the sensor outputs a duty cycle less than 3% (shorted to ground) or greater than 97% (shorted to battery, open circuit, or faulted internally) which activates the 3542-3 (Inter Axle Lock Accumulator Pressure Sensor: Voltage Above Normal) and 3542-4 (Inter Axle Lock Accumulator Pressure Sensor: Voltage Above Normal) fault, respectively. The maximum operating pressure of the sensor is 35.5 MPa (5149 PSI). The sensor requires 7–14 VDC supply, and operates between -40 to 125 °C (-40 to 257 °F). Refer to the sensor schematic for detailed sensor specification/requirements. The sensor is located on the IAD control valve body, which is located on the side of the Output Transfer Gear (OTG).Inertial Measurement Sensor
Illustration 4 g02915961
The inertial measurement sensor is a J1939 CAN datalink sensor. The sensor provides J1939 CAN messages to the Chassis ECM. The J1939 CAN messages encode the following information
Longitudinal acceleration
Lateral acceleration
Vertical acceleration
Yaw rate
Transmission rate of the sensorThe longitudinal and vertical axes of acceleration are used to help discriminate between true acceleration/deceleration and acceleration/deceleration due to slopes induced offsets. The lateral axis is used to help control straight line and turning motion. The yaw rate helps manage the balancing act of tractive performance and maneuverabilityThe inertial measurement sensor also provides diagnostic status of the above parameters to the Chassis ECM. When the internal diagnostic status on the sensor is active, an FMI 2 diagnostic fault code is activated. Note: The internal diagnostic flag activates when the internal component is faulted or the measured value is not within an acceptable range of the sensor. For the out of range fault, the diagnostic flag will de-activate when the measured value is within an acceptable range. When the sensor is shorted to battery, shorted to ground, or open circuit, the FMI 9 will activate. When the sensor firmware and ECM flash file are not compatible, an FMI 14 fault code is activated. The inertial measurement sensor requires 7.2 – 17 VDC supply, and must operate within the -40 to 85 °C
