PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING AIR INTAKE TUBE ASSEMBLY ON CERTAIN 773E OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
A new tube assembly needs to be installed in the intake air lines group of the products listed below. The existing air inlet tube could vibrate and crack near the weld of the bracket that secures the tube to the engine. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 21Feb2007 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
1.)Remove four bolts, washers, and spacers and remove steel deck.
2.)Loosen hose clamps on both ends of 238-9346 Tube Assembly.
3.)Remove two bolts and washers that secure tube assembly to fuel filter mounting bracket on right side of engine and remove tube assembly.
4.)Assemble 274-6853 Bracket to same mounting holes on fuel filter mounting bracket using removed bolts and washers.
5.)Assemble both ends of 274-6854 Tube to hose connections and position tube so that the hose clamps can be properly retighten.
6.)Assemble 176-8102 Clamp to tube and bracket and tighten.
7.)Tighten hose clamps on both ends of 274-6854 Tube.
8.)Assemble steel deck using removed bolts, washers, and spacers.
