Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) End plugNote: Before servicing the common rail fuel system on the 3500 Tier 4 Final engines, fuel that is under high pressure must be vented.
Slowly loosen end plug (1) in the last high-pressure accumulator (on either side of the engine), one full turn and wait for 30 seconds.
Verify that the fuel rail pressure is below 2 MPa (290 psi) in Cat Electronic Technician (ET) or CANape prior to performing the fuel system service.
Perform required fuel system service.
Upon completion of service, retighten the end plug to 60 3 N m (44. 2 lb ft). Failure to retighten the end plug will cause the fuel system not to perform correctly.Note: Fuel will vent into the double wall system when performing this process and will remain in the double wall system. Fuel purge from the double wall is not required.
Disconnect the battery power and move the ECM out of the way.

Disconnect the wiring harness from connectors at rail pressure sensor (2), fuel control valve (3), and rail temperature sensor (4).

(5) Inlet pressure sensor
Disconnect the wiring harness from the connector at fuel transfer pump inlet pressure sensor (5).
Remove low-pressure fuel lines at (A), (B), (C), (D), (E), and (F). Use a wrench to resist rotation on mating O-ring face seal (ORFS) fittings. Inspect the ORFS O-rings and replace if necessary.
Cap the low-pressure fuel lines at locations (A) and (B) with one 9U-7079 Tapered Cap/Plug (#35) per fuel line.
Cap the low-pressure fuel line at location (C) with one 276-0753 Plug Cap (#49).
Cap the low-pressure fuel lines at locations (D), (E), and (F) with one 9U-7082 Tapered Cap/Plug (#42) per fuel line.
Cap the fitting at location (B) with one
