Note: Refer to the latest revision of the Machine Electrical Schematic for complete circuit information, including harness connectors. This diagnostic code is associated with the Battery Cable Shield Monitor Circuit of the Machine ECM. Note: The circuit for the Battery Cable Shield Monitor is designed to indicate to the machine operator that the shield of the cable has been damaged. Each resistor is 1500 ohms. The damage may be the result of chaffing over a long period. The damage may also be the result of a nick in the shielding of the harness due to an impact. The 3035-3 diagnostic code is activated when the ECM detects the voltage of the Battery Cable Shield Monitor Circuit is above normal. The following conditions could cause this diagnostic code:
The signal circuit has shorted to +battery
The signal wire is open.
A resistor has an open.
The ECM has failed. (ECM failure is unlikely.)Note: Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.
Table 1
Battery Cable Monitoring System
Connected Resistors System Resistance to Ground System Voltage
None NA 5.0 0.1 VDC
1 1500 ohms 3.75 0.1 VDC
2 750 ohms 3.0 0.1 VDC
3 500 ohms 2.5 0.1 VDC
4 375 ohms 2.15 0.1 VDC
5 (1) 300 ohms 1.88 0.1 VDC
(1) Five (drain) resistors are standard on 980K models.
On 966K and 972K models, four resistors are standard and a fifth resistor is available when secondary steering is equipped.Note: The following test procedure may cause other diagnostic codes to be activated. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected. Test Step 1. CHECK THE ECM VOLTAGE SUPPLY
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Find and disconnect the shield resistor legs from the system until no resistors are connected to the ECM supply wire P835-GY(Grey). Turn keyswitch to ON position. Check the voltage between the ECM circuit and frame ground. Expected Result:The ECM circuit supply voltage is approximately 5.0 VDC. Results:
OK - - Voltage is 5.0 VDC. Proceed to test step 3
NOT OK - - The voltage is not approximately 5.0 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 2. STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE ECM VOLTAGE SUPPLY AT THE ECM PINNote: The shield resistor legs remain disconnected.
Remove the P835-GY(Grey) from the ECM harness connector with a wire removal tool.
Turn Key start Switch to the ON position, insert the "spoon" type multimeter probe through the hole where the P835-GY(Grey) wire was removed. Contact the multimeter probe to the ECM
