3406E (5EK) Truck EngineDescription of Change: A new speed/timing sensor that incorporates a new sliphead design will be used to service the 3406E Truck Engine. The new sliphead design improves the gear contact capabilities of the sensor. The new sensor with its white sliphead can be distinguished from former speed/timing sensors with their black slipheads. Adaptable To: The new 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor, used only in conjunction with the 126-8481 Washer, is installed only on the 3406E (5EK) Truck Engine. The 126-8481 Washer is not to be used on the 3176B (9CK) Engine or any other engines. The washer is also not to be used in conjunction with the 3E-6410 Speed/Timing Sensor or any former sensors with black slipheads.Use the following procedure to install the 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor:
1. Assure that the sliphead is fully extended.2. Visually inspect the timing wheel position in order to ensure that the sliphead will not fill one of the slots of the timing wheel. If necessary, turn the crankshaft in order to rotate the timing wheel to a position that will not allow the sliphead to fill a slot on the timing wheel.3. Install the 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor without the 126-8481 Washer. Tighten to 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).4. Remove the 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor. Do not move the sliphead.5. Install the 126-8481 Washer on the 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor.6. Install the 127-1008 Speed/Timing Sensor. Tighten to 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).7. Calibrate the engine timing using procedure PC-32 of the Electronic Troubleshooting Guide, SENR5582.
