When reporting the repair, use "PS50980" as the Part numberand "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim DescriptionCode and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Donot perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the terminationdate without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst. This Revised Service Letter replacesthe October 20, 2005 (Revised April 2006) Service Letter. Changes havebeen made to the Service Claims Allowance Table.TERMINATION DATE

Higher than normal exhaust temperatureshave resulted in instances of turbocharger hot housing cracks, exhaustmanifold cracks, and/or persistent black smoke. This program may only beapplied in the event of a turbocharger hot housing crack, exhaust manifoldcracks or persistent black smoke not attributable to recognized causesof black smoke described in service publication SENR9683. If the exhaustmanifold is cracked due to the turbo failure the manifold will be coveredas contingent damage under this letter. If there are no cracks in turbohousing it will not be covered by this service letter. If the turbo failsfor other reasons, ex: turbine wheel, compressor wheel, oil leaks or otherfailures besides high exhaust temperatures it will not be covered underthis service letter and any the claim will not be allowed.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Flash with updated software.
Transfer the following data from the oldengine information label to a new 121-0169 Information Plate :

Transfer the NEW FLS and FTS numbers tothe Information Plate
Remove the original information labeland replace with the new information Plate.
Repair Turbo if cracked due to high exhausttemperatures.
