October 2002 NEW D8L SPLIT MASTER LINKS
As a continuation of the program to consolidate the undercarriage components of the D8L and the D8R/N new master link parts are being offered (see refer IRM?s UC93-6 media number PELM0381 and UC93-6A media number PELM0392 for previous part number consolidations). These new master links are only offered for use in undercarriage systems that have not already been converted to the D8R/N undercarriage components, still using D8L rollers and link assemblies. This change will reduce the number of part numbers in the parts system for both Caterpillar and dealers to improve inventory efficiencies

With the former and new part numbers not being interchangeable, when you order one of the four master links, you will get both the pin end and bushing end (example if you order right hand bushing end of the former part number 7T2211 you will receive right hand bushing end 8E4457 and right hand pin end 223-1617). if you need both a pin end and bushing end of the former part numbers ONLY order one of the part numbers because you will get both pin end and bushing end of the new part numbers.

The D8L master shoe is keyed and must be ground off when used with the new D8L master links.

Custom Track Service (CTS)
When performing CTS on the new master links, refer to D8R/N link wear charts in the 14th Edition of CTS Handbook (Media Number PEPK9400-02).
