Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pin hole leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.
Before making any operational checks for the brakes, perform the following visual inspections:
Check the oil level in the tandem housing.
Check for cracks or wear in hoses or lines.
Check for restriction to flow.
Check for loose connections.
Check for damage to components.
Remove the filter element and check for foreign material. Use a magnet in order to separate materials. If ferrous material is found in the element, repair the damaged component. Once the component is repaired, flush the hydraulic system.
Check the tightening torque of all bolts.
