Pressurized air can cause personal injury. The air supply lines are pressurized to 830 kPa (120 psi).Purge the air from the system before performing any maintenance to the air system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
In order to test the automatic lubrication system, perform the following procedure.
Disconnect one lube line at a bearing.
Start the engine.
After 10 minutes, the lubrication pump is activated. The lubrication pump can be heard or the lubrication pump can be felt when the lubrication pump is operating. Within 75 seconds, the lubrication pump will turn off.
Stop the engine.
Lubricant should have been ejected from the disconnected lube line. Reconnect the lube line.
