Remove & Install Turbocharger
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants put into the system may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
1. Remove the air inlet pipe at the turbocharger.2. Remove the exhaust pipe and exhaust coupling from the turbocharger. 3. Use Tool (A) to remove retaining ring (2).4. Disconnect lever (3).5. Remove four bolts and washers (1).6. Remove wastegate assembly (4). 7. Remove turbocharger oil drain line (6).8. Disconnect one wire assembly (5). 9. Disconnect two tube assemblies (7).10. Remove turbocharger oil supply line (8) 11. Remove four nuts (9). Upon installation tighten nuts (9) to a torque of 30 5 N m (22 4 lb ft). 12. Use two people to remove turbocharger (10). The weight of the turbocharger is approximately 23 Kg (50 lb)tx1#. 13. Remove gasket (11). For installation of the turbocharger, reverse the removal steps. Use 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the turbocharger mounting studs and on nuts (9) prior to installation.Disassemble Turbocharger (Schweitzer S4A)
Start By:a. remove turbocharger 1. Put alignment marks on three housings of the turbocharger for correct alignment during assembly.2. Loosen clamp (2), and remove housing (1) and clamp (2) from housing assembly (3). 3. Loosen clamp (5), and remove cartridge assembly (4) and clamp (5) from housing assembly (3).Assemble Turbocharger (Schweitzer S4A)
1. Check all the parts of the turbocharger for damage. If the parts are damaged, use new parts for replacement. See Special Instruction, SMHS6854, for Turbocharger Reconditioning. Also, see Guidelines For Reusable Parts, SEBF8018.2. Install new cartridge group (4). Be careful not to bend the fins on the cartridge during assembly. 3. Put an installation mark on the new cartridge assembly, in the same location as on the old cartridge assembly.4. Put cartridge assembly (4) into housing (3) and align the marks placed on them.5. Install clamp (5). Tighten clamp (5) to a torque of 14 3 N m (10 2 lb ft). Tap the clamp lightly all around and tighten again to a torque of 14 3 N m (10 2 lb ft). 6. Place housing (1) in its original position on housing assembly (3) by aligning the alignment marks. Install clamp (2). Tighten clamp (2) to a torque of 14 3 N m (10 2 lb ft). Tap the clamp lightly all around and tighten again to a torque of 14 3 N m (10 2 lb ft).End By:a. install turbocharger
