Rework Procedure
Base Frame Paint Repair Procedure:
1. Preparation
1.1 Wash entire the machine free from obvious dirt. Refer to Image1.1.1.
1.2 Place the machine in a repair paint booth in order to prevent dust from getting on the painted surface.
1.3 Use Valspar EU/ EAXA016 or equivalent to CAT certified paint (Alkyd DTM Medium gloss black).
1.4 Sand the whole undercarriage frame, not only the rusted spots, and completely remove the paint film.
1.5 High pressure spray at close range with hot water can be used to remove the paint before sanding. Refer to Image 1.1.1.
Do not spray to seals directly to prevent seal damage. Water entry to the bearing or track rollers by seal damage will make rust and serious problem.
After the hot water spray, remove water on the surface by air blow to prevent rusting.

1.6 Clean up by solvent, alkaline, or acetates cleaner.
1.7 Mask the parts around the paint area in order to prevent the black color over spray. (i.e. Yellow, Decal, Glass parts, Seals, etc.)
2. Painting
2.1 Paint the sanded area based on Technical Data Sheet(TDS). (Obtain TDS from a paint supplier). An air spray gun or airless spry gun is acceptable.
2.2 Remove the masking.
3. Drying - Ensure that the drying time is based on the paint TDS. Generally Alkyd paint requires seven days to be dried completely without any special air treatments.
4. Paint finish - Obtain ASTM D3359, D3363.
Finished paint film shall meet the following conditions:
- Minimum Dry Film Thickness: 0.075mm
- Adhesion(ASTM D3359 Method A): 4A Minimum
- Hardness (ASTM D3363): HB Minimum before handling, stacking, packing, or outdoor exposure.
- Color: Applies only to topcoat paints. The visual appearance between the painted area and the color standard shall be matched.
