When using Microsoft Access 2000 to view the VIMSpc99 database, you will be prompted to either "Update the database to the newer version of Access" or "Open the database". Do NOT select the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option. Use the "Open the database" option to open the database and view the data. If the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option is selected, all data in the database may be lost and VIMSpc99 may not function as intended.
The size of the current Microsoft Access Database (version 5.0/97 and prior) is limited to 1 gigabyte (1,000,000 Kbytes). If the VIMS.MDB exceeds this limit, VIMSpc99 will produce an error during the merge process. This error will not allow the user to merge files. Exceeding this limit can also destroy the integrity of the database resulting in the loss of all the data in the database. This error can be avoided by monitoring the size of the VIMS.MDB database and archive/compact the database frequently in order to avoid loss of data. This issue will be addressed in a future version of software.
Updating a Different Database
This procedure may be used to update a non default VIMS database.
Make a secure copy of the "VIMS.MDB" database. Note: The "VIMS.MDB" file is usually located in the "C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIMS\DATA directory".
Rename the "VIMS.MDB" database to "VIMSDB.MDB".
Move the database that is to be updated to the same directory as the "VIMSDB.MDB" database.
Change the name of the file to "VIMS.MDB".
Run the "Database Update" utility. The utility is located in the "Update" directory on the VIMSpc99CD-ROM.
After the database has been updated, rename the file to the file's previous name.
Rename the "VIMSDB.MDB" file back to "VIMS.MDB".VIMSpc99 Enhancements
The Database Archive function now supports the selection of multiple machines. This function allows the user to combine the "archive files". This can be done when the computer is idle. The "Database Transfer function" now supports selection of multiple machines. All reports now utilize a new report system. The new report system improves the functions that are listed below.
