Illustration 11 g03795730Typical example of a hydraulic oil filter bypass switch.
Illustration 12 g03795732The bypass switch is a pressure switch that shows whether the filter is plugged and the filter is being bypassed. The hydraulic filter bypass switch is a normally closed switch. The bypass switch will open at 345 37 kPa (50 5 psi) differential pressure notifying the ECM that the filter is plugged. The hydraulic filter bypass switch is one of the inputs used to drive the system indicator in the instrument cluster. The indicator is turned on when the hydraulic filter bypass switch is open and the hydraulic oil temperature is greater than a set value. The hydraulic filter bypass switch provides a ground to the ECM if pressure rises above a set value.Outputs
The ECMs respond to decisions by sending electrical signals to the outputs. The outputs can create an action or the outputs can provide information to the operator or the service technician.Solenoids

Quick coupler load sense solenoid
Illustration 15 g02745977
Location of quick coupler valve
The coupler load sense solenoid enables the implement pump to meet the demand of the hydraulic quick coupler. The coupler load sense solenoid is activated by the ECM when the quick coupler is operated. The coupler load sense solenoid is a two position normally closed hydraulic solenoid valve.Pilot Shutoff Solenoid
Illustration 16 g03795750
Rear view of implement valve (pilot shutoff solenoid called out).
The pilot shutoff solenoid controls pilot oil flow from the charge pump to the implement valve. The solenoid enables or disables the hydraulic implements when the operator selects the disable position on the implement disable switch. When the operator enables the implements, all implement controls must be in the center position for the ECM to activate the pilot shutoff solenoid. Unintended movement of the implements is prevented by the ECM monitoring the implement controls when the implements are activated.Implement Function Solenoids
Illustration 17 g03795767To control the implement solenoids, the ECM will apply a current amount that corresponds to the input signals from the operator controls. The current in the solenoid coil windings moves the valve plunger to allow pilot pressure to act on one end of the corresponding valve spool. The position of the valve plunger controls the amount of pilot oil at the end of the valve spool. Implement solenoids are variable position solenoids.Ride Control Activation Solenoid
Illustration 18 g03795775When lift control valve is in the HOLD position and the ride control is set to AUTO mode the ride control activation solenoid is energized when the machine reaches the trigger speed. Oil can pass back and forth from the cylinders to the accumulators cushioning the ride. When the machine speed is reduced to below trigger speed, the ride control solenoid is automatically switched off.Data Link
Cat Data Link
The Cat Data Link is an input/output of the ECM. The data link uses the connector for the service port in order to communicate with the Caterpillar Electronic Technician. A data link connection is provided for the
