Removal Procedure
Sulfuric Acid Burn Hazard may cause serious personal injury or death.The exhaust gas cooler may contain a small amount of sulfuric acid. The use of fuel with sulfur levels greater than 15 ppm may increase the amount of sulfuric acid formed. The sulfuric acid may spill from the cooler during service of the engine. The sulfuric acid will burn the eyes, skin and clothing on contact. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) that is noted on a material safety data sheet (MSDS) for sulfuric acid. Always follow the directions for first aid that are noted on a material safety data sheet (MSDS) for sulfuric acid.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Remove nut (1) and the straps to reposition harness assembly (2).
Remove bolt (4). Remove bolts (5) and disconnect tube assembly (3)

Remove bolt (6) and disconnect tube assembly (7)
Illustration 3 g06286198Note: Clamp assemblies (9) and (10) is a one time use part. Discard the clamp assemblies if the clamp is loosened.
Loosen clamp assembly (9) and disconnect tube assembly (8)
Loosen clamp assembly (10) and disconnect tube assembly (11)

Remove stud bolts (14) and the spacers. Remove stud bolts (12) and the washers. Remove exhaust cooler (13).Installation Procedure
Install exhaust cooler (13) in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten clamp (10) and (9) to a torque of 7.5 1 N.m (66.4 9 lb in).
