This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3871" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3871" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This rework must be preformed after or at the same time as PI3843 dated March 3, 1996.

The combination line relief/make-up valve needs to be replaced with a separate line relief valve and a separate make-up valve, and a spacer needs to be added to the crossover stem on certain 5230 Excavators. An added spacer on the stick end of the crossover stem will prevent drift in the stick cylinder during boom-up operation.

Rework Procedure
Rework Procedure for front valve (refer to Illustration 1):
1. Remove the original (6) line relief valves as noted on Illustration 1. Replace (4) with new 1275652 Relief Valves and (2) with 1079407 Make-up Valves in the noted locations. Tighten to 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).2. Remove the (3) plugs as noted and replace them with (3) 1079407 Make-up Valves. Tighten to 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).
Illustration 1 Rework Procedure for 5230 rear valve (refer to Illustration 2):
1. Remove the plugs (2) as noted and replace with (2) 1275652 Line Relief Valves. Tighten to 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).2. Insert the 1341845 Spacer between the crossover spool retainer and the counterbore in stick-side endhousing by following procedure:a. Remove crossover/LH track boom-side endhousing.b. Insert a -14 bolt into each spool (crossover, track LH1 and track LH2).c. Attach vice grips or another tool to the bolt in each spool to prevent the spools from dropping from the valve when stick-side endhousing is removed.d. Move hoses below stick-side endhousing as needed to allow following steps.e. Remove A(2) bolts from stick-side endhousing. See Illustration 2.f. Insert (2) M10 threaded rods approximately 432 mm (17") long, with 2 nuts at the end of each, into the bolt hole locations.g. Remove the remaining (6) bolts from the stick-side endhousing.h. Gently allow the stick-side endhousing to lower until it is held by the nuts at the ends of the threaded rods, making certain that the rods are inserted far enough and
