On G3500B engines, the throttle and bypass actuators are directly connected to the battery and draw current even when the engine is not running. If the engine is not restarted or battery power is not disconnected, the batteries can be drained within a few hours. The amount of time before the batteries are drained depends upon the type and the quality of the batteries.A relay can be installed by the customer to disconnect the batteries from the engine. The relay can be installed in the engine interface box.The relay needs to meet the following specifications:
Style - Single Pull Double Throw (SPDT) normally open
Voltage - 24 VDC
Maximum current capacity - 20 AIf using an engine signal to operate the relay is desired, the relay can be triggered by the "GAS SHUTOFF CIRCUIT SIG +", instead of a customer Programmable Logic Control (PLC). The "GAS SHUTOFF CIRCUIT SIG +" can be found on "Terminal Strip Location 7 (C-T34)" inside the Engine Interface Box (EIB). This circuit connects to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) at pin "11" of the "J2" connector.Note: If the signal from the engine gas shut-off circuit will be used, a 24VDC momentary switch must be installed in parallel to the relay. This switch will act as a reset for the relay, allowing for proper function.
