Information:

Check the Amount of Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and move the governor control lever to the medium speed position. 2. Look at the sight glass on the receiver dryer and note the amount of refrigerant in accordance with the following. 3. In figure A, almost transparent with few bubbles which disappear as the engine rpm varies: this indicates a satisfactory amount of refrigerant.4. In figure B, a lot of bubbles are present: this indicates lack of refrigerant.5. In figure C, small amounts of vapor are present: this indicates almost no refrigerant.6. If figure B or C is noticed, consult your authorized Caterpillar dealer for recharging.7. Operation of the air conditioner without correct amounts of refrigerant could cause failure of the compressor.Even in off - seasons, the air conditioner should be kept ready for operation all the year round.Regardless of the season, operate the air conditioner for a few minutes at least once a week to rotate the compressor: this prevents freon leakage caused by a dry shaft seal on the compressor.Inspect and/or Adjust the Belt
An incorrectly tensioned V-belt could cause not only a decrease of the compressor performance but damage to the belt and compressor.
1. Measure the deflection of the belt.2. Apply approximately 98 N (22 lb) force midway between the pulleys. The belt should deflect 7 to 10 mm (0.3 to 0.4 inch). If the deflection is out of specification, adjust the belt tension as follows.3. Loosen nuts (1), (2) and (3).4. Loosen lock nut (4) and turn in or out adjustment nut (5) to tighten or loosen the belt.5. After correctly adjusted, tighten nut (2) to hold the air-conditioner compressor in position.6. Tighten nuts (1), (3) and (4).7. Recheck the adjustment.Clean the Condenser
If excessively dirty, clean condenser with a brush. To prevent damage or bending of the fins, do not use a stiff brush.Repair the fins if found defective.
1. Unlatch and raise the engine hood.2. Loosen two bolts and open the radiator side cover. 3. Wash off all dirt and dust from the condenser with clean water.4. Close the radiator side cover and tighten the two bolts.5. Close and ratch the engine hood.Clean Filters
1. Pull out on both cover knobs and remove front filter cover (1) and front filter (2) from the air-conditioner body.2. Remove piping cover (5).3. Similarly remove side filter covers (3) and side filters (4) from both sides of the air conditioner body. 4. Clean filters and covers using pressure water 280 kPa (40 psi) or less, or compressed air. 5. After thoroughly cleaning and drying, do the reverse of removal to install all filters and covers.
