Caterpillar recommends you to use NLGI No. 2 Grease that meets the requirements for both cold and hot weather conditions.
Grease in the grease tank should be maintained above the MIN level. Operation with lower volume of grease could damage the front pins due to the lack of correct lubrication.Any foreign materials in the grease tank could restrict the lubrication lines or damage the valves. Prior to adding grease to the tank, be sure to wipe clean the tank fitting and grease pump nozzle.Adding grease beyond the MAX level would allow the top cover to come off during pump activation. The grease tank correctly topped up will contain approximately 2 liters (0.5 US gal) grease.
To add grease to the grease tank according to the following procedures. 1. Put the grease cartridge (2) onto the grease pump (1) which are stored in the storage box. The part number of the grease cartridge is 1P0808. To fill grease in the grease tank from its empty condition to its MAX level, 5 cartridges are required.2. Put off the cap (4) from the electric pump (3). 3. Put off the cap from the top of the grease pump, and connect the grease pump to the supply port of the electric pump with threads. 4. Push gradually the handle (H) of the grease pump (1) to feed grease up to the MAX position (A) of the grease tank.
(A) MAX position(B) MIN position5. When finished the feed of grease, put off the grease pump (1) and put the cap (4) onto the supply port of the electric pump (3) after cleaning.6. As another optional way, grease can be also fed through the fitting (5) with a grease gun.
