You must read and understand the warnings and instructions contained in the Safety section of this manual before performing any operation or maintenance procedures.Engine Oil and Filter
Change CD/SE or CD/SF Oil and Filter
1. Remove the crankcase drain access cover located in the crankcase guard. 2. Remove the crankcase oil drain plug. Allow the oil to drain. 3. Remove the used spin-on type filter. Clean the filter base. Be sure all of the used filter seal is removed.4. Coat the seal of a new filter with clean engine oil.Do not overtighten the filter. Use the index marks on the filter as a guide for proper tightening.5. Install the new filter by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten an additional 3/4 turn.6. Install the crankcase drain plug. 7. Remove the oil fill plug (1). Fill the crankcase with oil. See "Refill Capacities." Clean and install the plug.8. Start and operate the engine to fill the filter. Check for leaks.9. Stop the engine. 10. Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the dipstick (2).11. Install the crankcase drain access cover and the right access door.Power Train Oil System
Change Filter
1. Remove the floor plate. 2. Remove the filter element cover assembly.3. Remove and discard the filter element.4. Drain all the oil from the filter housing.5. Clean the cover assembly.6. Inspect the cover seal. Replace if damaged.7. Install the new element and cover.8. Start the engine. 9. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on dipstick (1). Add the oil through fill tube (2) if necessary.10. Stop the engine and install the floor plate.Final Drives
Check the Oil Level
Final drive oil plugs are located on the back side of the roller frames. Remove the oil fill plug from each final drive. Maintain the oil level in each final drive to the bottom of the plug opening.Clean and install the plugs.Cooling System
Add Coolant Conditioner
Do not add coolant conditioner until you read and understand the material in the "Cooling System Specifications" section.
The radiator cap access is located on the top of the hood. 1. Open the hood access cover.2. Remove the radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure.3. Add .25 liters (1/2 pint) of liquid coolant conditioner.4. Install the radiator fill cap and close the access cover.Tracks
Check/Adjust
Grease is under high pressure. Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death.Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.Loosen the relief valve one turn only.
Move the machine forward at least twice the lenght of the machine. Allow the machine to coast to a stop. Do not brake machine to stop.
Do not adjust track if dimension (1) is less than 19.0 mm (.75 in). Contact your Caterpillar dealer for track service.
