Engine Crankcase Oil Breather
Remove And Wash The Breather
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
1. Loosen the breather outlet hose clamp and remove the hose from the breather cover.2. Remove the breather.3. Check the condition of cover seal. Replace with new seal if the used one is damaged.4. Wash the element and cover assembly in clean, nonflammable solvent.5. Shake, or use pressure air, to dry the element.6. Install the clean breather element cover assembly.7. Install the hose and clamp.Recoil Spring Oil Compartment
Measure The Oil Level
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
1. Remove the oil fill cover plate. 2. Maintain the oil level to the level mark on the cylinder.3. Install the cover plate.4. Repeat the procedure on the other recoil compartment.Rear Idler Scraper Plate (If Equipped)
Adjust Scraper Plates
Loosen bolts and adjust scraper plates snug with rear idler. Replace if worn so plate cannot be adjusted snug.Repeat procedure on other rear idler.Fuel Tank Cap And Screen
Clean The Cap And Strainer
1. Remove the fuel tank fill cap and strainer.2. Disassemble the fuel cap. Wash cap and strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent.3. Inspect the tank cap seal. Replace it if it is damaged.4. Put a light coat of oil on the cap components. Assemble the cap and install.Fuel Filter
Wash Primary Filter Element
Pressure air can cause personal injury. When using pressure air for cleaning, wear a protective face shield, protective clothing and protective shoes. The maximum air pressure must be below 205 kPa (30 psi) for cleaning purposes.Use all cleaning solutions with care.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
1. Shut off the red handled fuel supply valve.2. Remove right front side panel to gain access to fuel filters. 3. Loosen the filter housing retaining bolt. Remove the housing and element.4. Remove the element from the case and wash element and housing in clean, nonflammable solvent.5. Dry the element using pressure air.6. Clean the filter case base.7. Inspect the seal. Replace it if it is damaged.8. Insert the clean element and install element and case into housing.9. Retighten the retaining bolt to a torque of 24 4 N m (18 3 lb ft).Change Secondary Fuel Filter
1. Remove and discard the filter element.2. Clean the filter element mounting base. Be sure all of the old seal is removed.3. Coat the seal of the new filter element with clean diesel fuel.4. Install the new filter element by hand. When the seal contracts the base, tighten 3/4 turn more. There are rotation-index marks 90° apart on the filter. Use them as a guide for proper tightening.5. Open the fuel supply valve.6. Prime the fuel system. (See next topic).Priming The Fuel Filter
