Replace Filter
1. Remove the floor plate. 2. Remove filter element cover assembly (1).3. Remove and discard the filter element.4. Remove drain plug from bottom of filter housing. Drain oil from the filter housing. Clean and install drain plug.5. Inspect the cover seal. Replace if damaged.6. Install the new element and cover.7. Start the engine.8. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on dipstick (2). Add the oil through fill tube (3) if necessary.9. Stop the engine and install the floor plate.Hydraulic System
Replace Filter
1. Remove oil filler cap (1) to relieve the tank pressure. Remove the filler strainer.2. Loosen retaining bolt (2). Remove the filter cover and the filter element. Discard the filter element.3. Inspect the condition of the O-ring seal in the cover. Replace the seal if it is worn or damaged.4. Install a new filter element. Install the cover and tighten the retaining bolt to 58 5 N m (40 4 lb ft).5. Maintain oil level to the FULL mark in sight gauge (3).6. Clean the filler strainer and the oil filler cap in a clean nonflammable solvent. Install the strainer and cap.Fuel System
Change Filter
Do not fill fuel filter with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
1. Close the fuel supply valve, located on the left side of the machine under the fuel tank on the D3C Series Ill (1), and under the outer floor cover on the D4C Series Ill and the D5C Series Ill (2). 2. Open the access cover on the left side of the machine. 3. Remove and discard the filter.4. Clean the filter mounting base. Be sure all of the old seal is removed.5. Coat the seal of a new filter with clean diesel fuel.6. Install the new filter by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten 3/4 turn more.There are rotation-index marks 90 degrees apart on the filter. Use them as a guide for proper tightening.7. Open the fuel supply valve.8. Prime the fuel system. (See next topic).Fuel Priming
If the engine does not start, air is trapped in the fuel lines to the engine. Use the following procedure to purge air from the lines.1. Unlock the fuel priming pump plunger.2. Loosen plug on top of fuel filter base.3. Operate the plunger until air is purged. Tighten the plug.4. Push in and lock the plunger.Fuel Tank
Clean Cap and Fill Screen
The fuel cap is located on the rear of the machine. 1. Remove and disassemble the cap.2. Inspect the gasket for damage. Replace the gasket if necessary.3. Lightly oil the element and assemble fuel cap.4. Install the fuel cap.Universal Joints
Lubricate Fittings
Remove the floor plate in the operator's compartment. Lubricate two fittings.Power Take-Off (If Equipped)
