(1) Neutral Start Switch
Make sure that the parking brake is activated. The propel control lever should be in the NEUTRAL position. Make sure that the engine is not running and make sure that the parking brake is ON.
Disconnect the electrical connector for neutral start switch (1) .
Connect the probes of tool (A) to pins one and two in the electrical connector of the neutral start switch. Switch the multimeter to the position that will measure continuity. The multimeter should show continuity.
Move the propel control lever to the FORWARD position and to the REVERSE position. The multimeter should show no continuity in these two positions.
Connect the probes of tool (A) to pins three and four in the electrical connector of neutral start switch (1). The multimeter should show no continuity.
Move the propel control lever to the FORWARD position. The multimeter should show no continuity in this position.
Move the propel control lever to the REVERSE position. The multimeter should show continuity in this position. This test makes sure that the backup alarm portion of the neutral start switch is operational.
If the neutral start switch fails any of the tests the neutral start switch must be replaced.
Reconnect the electrical connector for neutral start switch (1) .
