Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
The 362-1164 Oil Filter Gp hydraulic filter bowl can be tight and cause difficulty to remove during the 1000 hour scheduled service. The filter bowl may require over 100 N m (74 lb ft) to unscrew. Removal may result in thread damage. Most machines can clean up the threads and reuse the bowl, but some machines may need the bowl to be replaced, resulting in unscheduled downtime.Solution
When the filter is due for service, use the proper tools for the force that may be required. Use the correct socket for the bottom of the bowl and a good size breaker-bar. When the bowl is removed, check the threads for damage on the head and bowl. If the threads are damaged and do not engage well with the head on reassembly, then the bowl will need to be replaced. The part number has not changed. If replacement is needed, replace with same part number. If the threads are serviceable, proceed with the service as normal. Ensure that you replace the O-rings on the bowl, to reduce the risk of leaks in the future, and lubricate the threads well with Caterpillar Moly 3 grease before reassembly. Adding the Moly 3 grease will ensure that the bowl can be disassembled at a lower torque at the next service. The assembly torque for the bowl should be 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).
