electronic control module (ECM) monitors the engine coolant temperature by measuring an electrical signal from the engine's coolant temperature sensor. The coolant temperature sensor is located in the cover for the water temperature regulators. The ECM compares actual coolant temperature to the maximum allowable limit. If the temperature of the engine coolant reaches 108 °C (226 °F), the ECM will activate the high coolant temperature warning on the monitoring panel. The ECM will begin to derate the power output of the engine. Fuel limiting will continue until the coolant temperature returns below 104 °C (219 °F). The event is logged in the permanent ECM memory. Factory passwords are required to clear this information.
