1. Identify Any Active Code Associated With The Circuit Voltage
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool.
B. Check for codes.    
No codes present.    
OK - No codes present.
Go to Step 2.
Not OK - Code is present.
Go to the test procedure for that code.
STOP.    
2. Check Connections And Harness
A. Inspect the circuit harness connectors (1).
B. Inspect the harness.    
A. Connectors are:
* Clean
* Secure
* In good condition
B. Harness is not:
*Kinked
*Chaffed    
OK - Connections and harness are good.
Go to Step 3.
Not OK - A connection problem exists.
Repair:
A. Clean and secure connectors (1).
B. Verify that the problem is corrected.
STOP.    
3. Check The System Voltage At The Display Module
A. Turn Start switch and Disconnect switch ON.
B. Disconnect the harness from the display.
C. At the display harness connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the power contact.
D. At the display harness connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return contact.
E. Observe the voltage measurement while wiggling the connectors and wires.    
Voltage is:
≥ 9 VDC
< 16 VDC    
OK - Voltage is correct, the display module has failed.
Repair: Replace the display module.
STOP.
Not OK - Voltage is < 9 VDC.
Repair: Check the power circuit fuse or circuit breaker.
OK - Fuse is OK or circuit breaker is not tripped.
Go to Step 4.
NOT OK - Fuse is blown or circuit breaker is tripped.
Repair: Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
STOP.    
4. Check The Power Circuit For An Open
A. Harness remains disconnected from the display.
B. Disconnect the power wire from the ECM.
C. Insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe at each end of the power wire.
D. Observe the resistance measurement.    
Wire has continuity.    
OK - Wire has continuity.
Go to Step 5.
Not OK - Wire is open.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.
STOP.    
5. Check The Ground Circuit
A. Harness remains disconnected from the display.
B. Insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe at the display harness connector return contact.
C. Insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe at frame ground.
D. Observe the resistance measurement.    
Wire has continuity.    
OK - Wire has continuity.
Go to Step 6.
Not OK - Wire is open.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.
STOP.    
6. Check The System Voltage At The ECM
A. Turn Start switch and Disconnect switch ON.
B. At the display harness connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the power contact.
C. At the display harness connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return contact.
D. Observe the voltage measurement while wiggling the connectors and wires.    
Voltage is:
≥ 9 VDC
< 16 VDC    
OK - Voltage is correct, the ECM may have failed.
Contact your technical communicator (2).
Not OK - Voltage is < 9 VDC.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.
STOP.    
( 1 ) See Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connector - Inspect".
( 2 ) If ECM replacement is required, see Testing and Adjusting, "Module - Replace".

Go to Step 4.
NOT OK - Fuse is blown or circuit breaker is tripped.
Repair: Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
STOP.

Not OK - Wire is open.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.

C. At the display harness connector, insert one 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return contact.
