Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid systems.

Loosen nut (1). Remove clip (2). Reposition cable (3) out of the way. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) .

Remove bolt (5). Disconnect harness assemblies (6) .

Use Tooling (A) to remove bolts (8) (not shown).

Loosen clamp (9) and disconnect hose (10). Remove bolt (11) and reposition hose (10) out of the way.

Remove clamps (12) and disconnect hose (13). Remove bolt (14) and reposition harness assemblies (15) out of the way.

Note: The piston pump has been removed for photographic purposes.
Disconnect harness assembly (16). Remove bolt (17) and reposition grounding cable (18) out of the way.

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the engine. The weight of the engine is approximately 279 kg (615 lb).
Loosen clamp (20) and reposition hose (19) out of the way.

Remove bolts (21) .

Remove bolts (22), bolt (24), and bracket (23) .Note: Install bracket (23) and bolts (22) after the engine is removed. This will help to prevent damage to the oil pan while the engine is out of the machine.

Use the suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) to remove engine (25) from the machine. The weight of engine (25) is approximately 279 kg (615 lb).
