This problem can be corrected by the installation of inserts in the bottom of the cylinder head.
The original purpose of the inserts was for use in reconditioning of earlier cylinder heads for use on spacer plate cylinder blocks. The area around the coolant passages at the bottom of the cylinder head must be machined to install these inserts.
The insert part numbers and instructions for installation of the inserts can be found in Special Instruction Form SMHS7339. The original purpose of this Special Instruction was the reconditioning of earlier cylinder heads so they could be used with a spacer plate.
