Air Cylinder for the Governor
The movement of rod (5) in air cylinder (3), for the governor, controls the speed (rpm) of the engine.
AIR CYLINDER FOR THE GOVERNOR
1. Air inlet. 2. Air inlet (from emergency shut-off valve). 3. Air cylinder. 4. Piston. 5. Rod.Push the pedal on the governor control valve and air from the valve goes into air inlet (1). The air in inlet (1) moves piston (4) and rod (5), which is connected to the lever on the terminal shaft of the engine governor, and there is an increase in the rpm of the engine.
CONTROLS FOR THE GOVERNOR
1. Air inlet. 3. Air cylinder. 5. Rod. 6. Spring.Release the pedal for less engine speed and spring (6), also connected to the lever on the terminal shaft of the engine governor, pulls the lever and rod (5) to a less speed position. When the rod moves into the air cylinder, piston (4) pushes the air through inlet (1), through the line on the air inlet and through the air exhaust for the governor control valve.An emergency shutoff valve, for the engine, can put high pressure air through inlet (2) to move piston (4) and rod (5) to a position that stops the engine.Speed Cylinder for the Transmission
The rod (1) in the speed air cylinder is connected to the speed lever from the transmission. Air from the transmission control valve moves rod (1) to any one of four positions. The positions are: NEUTRAL, FIRST SPEED, SECOND SPEED and THIRD SPEED.

Rod end of cylinder. 11. Stop (in cylinder). 12. Piston (on rod). 13. Stop (in cylinder). 14. Head end of cylinder. N, 1, 2, 3. Cylinder rod positions for NEUTRAL, FIRST SPEED, SECOND SPEED and THIRD SPEED.NEUTRAL: The air from the transmission control valve, in neutral position, only goes through air inlet (4). The air through inlet (4) moves piston (12) against piston (8). Then the air moves both piston (12) and piston (8) to head end (14) and rod (1), on piston (12), is at NEUTRAL position N.FIRST SPEED: The air from the transmission control valve goes through both air inlet (2) and air inlet (4). The air through inlet (4) keeps piston (12) against piston (8) and moves piston (3) against rod end (10). The air through inlet (2) also goes through passage (6) to head end (14) and then moves piston (8) and piston (12) until piston (8) is against stop (13). Now rod (1), on piston (12), is at FIRST SPEED position 1.SECOND SPEED: The air from the transmission control valve goes through both air inlet (2) and air inlet (7).
