Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
Turn the engine OFF.

Remove bolts (1).

Attach Tooling (A), and a suitable lifting device to cover (6).
Remove nuts (2), plate (3), and the backing plate.
Remove nuts (5), plate (4), and the backing plate.

Remove nuts (7), plate (8), and the backing plate.
Remove nuts (9), plate (10), and the backing plate.
Remove cover (6).

Remove bolts (11), and ring (12).

Use Tooling (B) to remove catalyst assembly (13).

Remove exhaust gasket (14), and catalyst assembly (15).
Repeat steps 9, through 11 for the remaining catalysts.Installation Procedure
Install catalyst assembly (13) in the reverse order of removal.

Apply Tooling (C) to the threads and bearing surfaces of bolts (11).
Tighten bolts (11) in a star pattern as shown in illustration 9, to a torque of 10 2 N m (89 18 lb in).
Tighten bolts (11) again in a star pattern as shown in illustration 9, to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft)
Apply Tooling (C) to the threads and bearing surfaces of nuts (9), and nuts (7).
Apply Tooling (C) to the threads and bearing surfaces of nuts (5), and nuts (2).
Apply Tooling (C) to the threads and bearing surfaces of bolts (1).
