Remove the hammer tool from the hammer. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7662, "Tool (Hammer) - Remove and Install".
Remove the mounting bracket. Refer to the Service Manual, "Mounting Bracket - Remove and Install".
Remove the buffer. Refer to the Service Manual, "Buffer - Remove and Install".

Place the hammer in an upright position on a concrete surface. The surface of the housing must not be damaged or worn. The concrete surface must be level and clean. If the conditions are not stable, you must secure the hammer housing in order to ensure that the hammer will not fall.

Install Tooling (A) , appropriate lifting chains, and a hoist to the accumulator. If the bolts are too long for the threaded hole, use flat washers in order to support the shoulder of the link brackets. The weight of the hammer is approximately 1900 kg (4189 lb).

Lift the hammer enough to place blocking between the housing of the hammer and the valve body of the hammer. The hammer does not need to be removed from the housing.
Remove two pads (1) from the hammer.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.Note: One side of the pads is marked "OUT". When you install the pads, the side that is marked "OUT" should be facing toward the housing of the hammer. The side of the pads that are marked "OUT" should not be facing the hammer.

Place two pads (1) into position in the hammer.
Slowly lower the hammer onto the pads.

Remove Tooling (A) from the hammer.End By:
Install the buffer. Refer to the Service Manual, "Buffer - Remove and Install".
Install the mounting bracket. Refer to the Service Manual, "Mounting Bracket - Remove and Install".
Install the hammer tool from the hammer. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Tool (Hammer) - Remove and Install".
