Introduction
This special instruction contains the procedure needed to convert the earlier sweep group to the new sliding mounting block configuration.The new mounting block sliding design permits the sweep group to be installed and positioned on the machine without binding the mounting bolts. After positioning the sweep group on the machine, the sliding block mounting bolts can be tightened. Attach a "DO NOT OPERATE" or similar warning tag to the start switch or controls before starting the improved winch control linkage installation procedure. Tags SEHS7332, are available from your Caterpillar dealer.Reference: Service Manual and Parts Manual.Adaptability
The sliding mounting block added to the 3W5366 Sweep Group is adaptable to all D6H Tractors listed above. The old mounting blocks can be reused in this procedure. Installation Procedure
Installing the new adjustable mounting block requires the removal of the existing mounting block. Items of the existing sweep group will be reused as stated in the procedures that follow.
Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure that follows before working on the machine.
* Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from machine or in view of the operator.* Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel and lower the blade the ground.* Put blocks in front of and behind the tracks.* Engage the parking brake.* Stop the engine.Disassembly and Removal of Existing Parts

Old Sweep Group With Fixed Mounting Block Side View1. Remove mounting bolts and hardware at locations "A", "B" and "C". Remove guard assembly (1) from the machine. (See Illustration 1). The bolts and mounting hardware will be reused later in this instruction.

Old Sweep Guard Group Top View2. Remove rear cross member (2), from guard assembly (1) at the factory welds. (See Illustration 2).* Grind the area smooth and repaint if desired. Be careful not to damage the guard assembly tube while cutting the cross member off.3. Remove old mounting blocks (3), from guard assembly (1) at the factory welds. (See Illustration 2). The old mounting blocks can be reused in this procedure. For more information, refer to the topic entitled "Fabricating Adjustable Blocks Using Old Mounting Blocks", in this instruction.Rework of Existing Parts

Reworked Area Of Guard Assembly Side View1. Cut off both ends of guard assembly (1) to the dimension shown in Illustration 3. Be sure to measure from the front edge of the guard assembly.2. Remove material from both inside faces of guard assembly (1) to the dimensions shown in Illustration 3.3. Cut two slots in both outside faces of guard assembly (1) to the dimensions shown in View A-A of Illustration 3.4. Fabricate two plates (4), using plate template "A". Plate template "A" is located at the rear of this instruction. Mild steel is recommended for these plates.
Do not weld on painted areas.
