Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Disconnect the harness assembly from the valve mechanism cover base.

Remove bolts (5). Disconnect harness assembly (4) from valve mechanism cover base (1). Remove connector seal (6).
Disconnect the harness assemblies from electronic unit injectors (11).
Remove bolts (10). Remove valve mechanism cover base (1) from the cylinder head.
Remove seal (9) from the valve mechanism cover base.
Remove bolts (7) and clips (8) for the harness assembly.
Remove bolts (3) and clips (2) for the harness assembly.
Remove the harness assembly from the valve mechanism cover base. Installation Procedure

Tightening sequence
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (7). Install bolts (7) and clips (8) for the harness assembly.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (3). Install bolts (3) and clips (2) for the harness assembly.
Install the harness assembly in clips (2) and clips (8) in order to secure the harness assembly to the inside of the valve mechanism cover base.
Install connector seal (6) and harness assembly (4) on the valve mechanism cover base. Install bolts (5). Note: Install the connector seal with the curved part of the seal against the valve cover base.
Install seal (9) in the valve mechanism cover base. Apply Tooling (A) to the seal joint.
Put valve mechanism cover base (1) in position on the cylinder head and install bolts (10). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 18 3 N m (13 2 lb ft) in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 3.
Position the harness assemblies in position on electronic unit injectors (11). Tighten the cap nuts to a torque of 2.5 0.25 N m (22 2 lb in).
Connect the harness assembly to the valve mechanism cover base. End By:
