D9L, D10 TractorsSpecial Instruction, Form SMHS8273, "Disassembly of Front Track Roller Frames With Damaged Guide Key Slot," tells how to safely disassemble and inspect front track roller frames on the above machines. It is possible for the roller frames to have cracks in the guide key slot areas. If cracks are present, the Special Instruction tells the serviceman how to cut an opening in the track roller frame to get access to the recoil spring located inside the frame. The recoil spring has to be cut with a torch to release the preload tension before the roller frame is disassembled.
A roller frame which has had an opening cut in it to get access to the recoil spring must not be reused. Do not try to repair any frame which has had this modification made to it.
