Machines With Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) And All Twin-Engine Scrapers With Electronic Transmission SwitchingThe EMS and electronic switching controls are designed to shut down, to protect their electronic components, if the electrical system voltage returns to normal, the EMS and electronic switching controls will start to work again. Some troubleshooting material has not made the above information clear.
The EMS and electronic switching controls should work correctly when the electrical system voltage is between 18 and 32 volts. If the EMS or the electronic switching controls appears to be "dead", use a 6V7070 Digital Multimeter or its equivalent to check the electrical system voltage. Normal voltage with the batteries charged and the engine stopped is 24 to 25 volts and 26 to 29 volts with the engine running at high idle.
High electrical system voltage can be caused by a failure of the alternator and/or voltage regulator. The failure of those components is often caused by using an improper voltage source to jump-start the engine.
Only another 24 volt source should be used to jump-start the engine.
