Illustration 2. Cross section of new track seal and bushing contact area.The track seal contacts the end of the bushing as shown in Illustration 2. As the seal slides against the bushing end, the contact area is polished. This polished area is called the seal band. Continued polishing will eventually form a seal groove around the surface of the bushing end. The seal band will always be on the inside edge of the seal groove toward the center of the bushing. See Illustration 3. The seal groove will progress radially toward the center of the track bushing. The seal groove width varies with some machine applications.
Illustration 3. Cross section of typical worn seal and bushing.When the bushings are being turned, position the bushing groove gauge on the end of bushing as shown in Illustration 4. Rotate the gauge around the end of the bushing.
