Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to axle housing assembly (6). The weight of axle housing assembly (6) is approximately 363 kg (800 lb).
Remove bolts (7) and axle housing assembly (6).

Install axle housing assembly (6) onto Tooling (A).

Remove plug (11), O-ring seal (10), spring pin (9), and pin (8).

Remove retaining ring (12) from axle shaft (13).Note: To complete removal retaining ring (12), the planetary assembly must be disassembled.

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier assembly (14). The weight of planetary carrier assembly (14) is approximately 60 kg (132 lb).
Remove planetary carrier assembly (14) from axle housing assembly (6).

Use a hammer and a suitable punch to push spring pins (15) and (16).

Remove spring pins (15) , (16) planetary shaft (17), thrust discs (18), planetary gear (19), bearing (20), and thrust disc (18) from the planetary carrier assembly. Repeat this step for the remaining planetary gears.

Removing retaining ring (12) from planet carrier (21).

Reposition axle housing assembly (6) on Tooling (A), as shown to prevent the axle shaft from rotating when bearing nut (22) is removed.
Use Tooling (D) to remove bearing nut (22). Remove bearing nut (22).

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to axle housing assembly (6). The weight of axle housing assembly (6) is approximately 136 kg (300 lb).
Attach Tooling (E) to axle housing assembly (6). Use Tooling (E) to push axle shaft (13) and bearing cone (23) from axle housing assembly (6). Use Tooling (C) and the suitable lifting device to apply a constant upward pressure.

Remove bearing cone (23) and bearing cup (24) from axle housing assembly (6).
Remove Duo-Cone seal (26) and bearing cup (25) from the opposite end of axle housing assembly (6).

Remove bearing cone (27) and Duo-Cone seal (28) from axle shaft (13).

Use one of the following methods to remove ring gear (30) from axle housing (6).
Use a torch to cut ring gear (30) at pins (29).
Make three welds around the inside ring gear (30) to cause ring gear (30) to shrink.
Remove pins (29).
Repeat Steps 2 through 21 for the remaining axle housing assembly.Note: Before removing the other side axle housing assembly, install assembled axle housing assembly (6) and position axle assembly (5) as shown in Illustration 2.
