(3) Use the following procedure to tighten the locknut.Note: Heat the bearing cones (1) to a temperature of 120° to 150°C (248° to 270°F). In order to prevent overheating, the bearing cones must not be allowed to rest on the bottom of the heater. The bearing cones should be suspended on racks or the cones should be suspended on hooks.
While you rotate hub (2) , tighten the locknut to a torque of approximately 200 N m (147 lb ft).
Back off the nut until the torque returns to zero.
While you rotate the hub, tighten the locknut to a torque of 175 200 N m (129 15 lb ft).
Back off the locknut to the nearest tab onlocknut (3) . Bend the tab into the slot on the locknut.
