Release the Pressure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the hydraulic hammer from the host machine before you perform the tasks in the Disassembly and Assembly section of the Service Manual. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8712, "Work Tool Installation and Removal" for information on the removal of the hammer from the host machine. To release the hydraulic system pressure of the host machine, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure - Release" for the host machine.Release the pressure from the Hammer
Note: Pressurized oil can be trapped inside the hammer even if the hammer is disconnected from the host. Release the hydraulic pressure. Use the following instructions or wait at least 10 minutes before opening any plugs or valves.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Personal injury or death can result without releasing all of the hydraulic pressure.Release all the pressure from the hydraulic system before any lines are disconnected.
Check valves in the hydraulic system may allow pressure to exist in the hydraulic lines after the engine has been stopped. Pressure must be relieved prior to servicing the components of the hydraulic system. Failure to relieve pressure prior to servicing may result in personal injury.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

Slowly loosen plug (2) to release the hydraulic system pressure. Drain any oil into a suitable container. When the hydraulic pressure has been released, tighten plug (2) .Note: This procedure does not release the pressure from the pressure accumulator. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Accumulator - Remove and Install".
