Put a thin layer of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seals before installation.(12) Torque for bolts: 8K2605 Earlier (one) ... 1190 110 N m (880 80 lb ft)8K2605 Later (three) ... 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft)8R1518, 4E2974 (three) ... 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft)(13) Dimension, retainer to retainer ... 2.29 0.51 mm (.090 .020 in)(14) Torque for 10 bolts ... 1200 100 N m (880 75 lb ft)(15) With machine on level surface, fill the case with SAE 30 oil to approximately 25 mm (1.00 in) below plug level.(16) Coat splines with 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound.(17) Coat pilot surface of cage assembly with 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound.(18) Coat pinion with 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound. Assemble to shaft with a minimum force of 90 kN (10 ton) and a maximum force of 350 kN (39 ton). Adjustment Procedure For Output Shaft
1. Check gap (13) between retainers and torque for bolt or bolts (12). Correct as necessary.2. Pull gear (19) so that it does not mesh with gear (21).3. Check the torque required to rotate pinion (18) and shaft (22) slowly. Rolling torque should be ... 27 7 N m (20 5 lb ft)If rolling torque is not correct, an adjustment must be made.4. Remove bolts (3), retainer (20) and shims (4).5. Reinstall retainer (20) and bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) in steps-evenly. At the same time, check rolling torque of shaft (22). Tighten bolts (3) until torque required to turn shaft is 27 7 N m (20 5 lb ft).6. Using a depth micrometer, measure the distance from the top of retainer (20) to the top of shaft (22). There is a small hole in retainer (20) for just this purpose. Record measurement.7. Remove bolts (3) and retainer (20). Using an outside micrometer, measure the thickness of the retainer at the small hole. Record measurement.8. Subtract the measurement found in Step 7 from the measurement found in Step 6. The difference is the correct thickness of shim (4).9. Install correct shim thickness found in Step 8, retainer (20) and bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) evenly to a torque of 270
