3516 (28Z) Vehicular EnginesA Caterpillar 2 micron fuel filter is recommended for all 3500 Diesel Engines. The new high pressure fuel systems require increased protection from abrasive wear. If the 2 micron fuel filter plugs, DO NOT replace the plugged filter with a larger micron fuel filter. The 2 micron filter plugged because it was doing it's job of cleaning the fuel and protecting the injectors.
ALWAYS USE CLEAN FUEL. This means using fuel tank filters and day tanks/fuel trucks that can keep the fuel free of dirt and water.
Other Useful Tips
* The fuel tank should be periodically drained.* Clean the inside of the fuel tank as needed.* Use a water separator when necessary.* Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing.* Fuel filters should be changed when a monitoring device indicates a high differential pressure.
